JulesBest I was given this specimen by my grandmother. She was an avid rock/crystal/specimen collector and this was one of her most spectacular. At 9 years old I was beside myself with joy when she gave it to me! I've always wondered what it was, I know she told me it was created by lightning striking the earth, or a crystal, but when I look this up online I don't see anything like what they call Fulgurite. Please tell me, what are your thoughts? Thank you in advance for your help!
Deeno1990 I'm not sure what the mineral is, but lightning strikes that hit sand create tube like fulgurites, whereas strikes that hit an underlying rock matrix in the presence of sand can cause it to fuse to the mineral in a layer, which looks like what may have happened in the photos?
JulesBest very cool! Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated! I wish I knew a bit more about it, guess I need to get out the Oiji board to talk to gramma lol
