In terms of supply, Colombia is the largest producer of emeralds in the world. They pump out about 50% of the global supply. Colombian emeralds are known for their vivid and intense green color, as well as their clarity and size. They have famous mines in Boyacá and Cundinamarca departments, such as Muzo, Coscuez, Chivor, and Gachalá.
Zambia is the second largest producer of emeralds in the world, with around a quarter of the global supply. Zambian emeralds are known for their deep and rich green color, as well as their durability and hardness. Kagem, Grizzly, Chantete, and Kamakanga mines are notorious for good emeralds.
There is also Brazil which is on par with Zambia. Minas Gerais and Bahia states, such as Belmont, Nova Era, Santa Terezinha, and Carnaiba emeralds are known for their variety and diversity of color, as well as their brilliance and fire.
Some other good places for emerald specimens are Afghanistan, Australia, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Pakistan, Russia, and Zimbabwe.
